Welcome to Studio Interlude
Welcome to Studio Interlude—an interlude in the truest sense: a pause, a breath, a space between the rush. A moment to savor and to notice. Here you'll find a rhythm of reflection: musings from my studio, glimpses of the creative process, slow travels, the soul of old things, and the way light pools on the floorboards in the late afternoon. You’ll find travel notes, home design inspiration, studio behind-the-scenes, and the tender unfolding of restoring our 1905 craftsman cottage.
It still doesn’t feel entirely real to write those words—but after years of dreaming, saving, searching, and praying, Jonathan (@earthengoods) and I have finally found a place to call our own.
In a housing market that felt impossible at times, we held on to hope. There were setbacks. A lot of waiting. A lot of letting go. But somewhere along the way, something aligned. A door opened, and behind it was a little historic craftsman that immediately felt like it had a heartbeat of its own.
It’s not perfect—it’s weathered, and quirky, and needs more love than we can give it all at once. But that’s exactly why we fell for it. This home has stories in its bones. Charm in its uneven floors. Quiet magic in its old windows and original trim. It holds potential in every corner.
There’s a lot of work ahead, and we’ll be remodeling slowly, thoughtfully. We’re taking it one step at a time, trusting that beauty comes in layers, and that joy lives in the process—not just the finished product.
Corners and details I love, even amongst the remodel chaos
A page scribbled during the dreaming phase
We’re still adjusting to our new neighborhood—a place that feels like it was carved from a dream. Slower, sweeter. The kind of quiet that fills you up. In the mornings, we wake to the sound of clucking chickens and birds chittering in the trees. From our yard, we can see the snow-capped peaks of Big Bear, standing guard over the valley. The sidewalks bloom with ivy and morning glory, and neighbors wave as they pass, offering cheerful "good mornings!" without hesitation. There’s a rhythm here that feels ancient and yet familiar—and we are slowly learning its pace.
Our intention is to create a space that reflects the things we love most: warmth, soul, imperfection, and story. A place that feels alive. A place to gather, to rest, to create, to just be.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you’re here for the stories, the renovation process, the art and design details, or simply a moment of inspiration to start your week—welcome. I’m so glad you’re here.
